PTHS Awards Night We had a very successful evening. I appreciate the work of the Guidance Department as they put together a great evening. The financial support from our local families and businesses is truly overwhelming. Informational Items: Student Handbook Recommendations: Please see the recommendations below. I will discuss them at the meeting and answer any questions you may have. Course Proposal: Fresh Start Summer Program Social Development Students who take Social Development will learn the social skills needed for independent functioning within the school community. Topics will include self-control, self-expression, obeying rules, decision-making, appropriate situational behavior, interacting with others, and maintaining relationships. Students will continue to work on developing independence, self-confidence, and self-reliance.
How will students earn the ½ elective credit? Successful completion of Fresh Start summer program (20 hours)
Meet with assigned teacher-mentor (will move from daily to weekly as school year progresses) Attend monthly Fresh Start program meetings (these will be immediately after school on designated Wednesdays)
Course Proposal: Math Essentials Prerequisite: Freshman/Sophomores concurrently enrolled in Concepts in Algebra, or approval of Math Essentials Instructor. This course will serve as additional support for students concurrently enrolled in Concepts in Algebra, as the curriculum of the two courses will be directly correlated. Math Essentials is designed to enhance the student’s knowledge of prerequisite skills and academic language that are needed to succeed in high school mathematics. This course will center on quantitative reasoning and seeks to develop number sense, algebraic thinking, and critical thinking skills.
