Board Report August 2025
Inclement Weather : Inclement weather includes events such as a tornado or earthquake. During a tornado students and staff are to seek shelter in a designated location. Once in the location students are to sit on the floor with their backs against the wall, heads between their legs, and hands covering their heads. If there is an earthquake, get away from the windows and take cover under a desk or other sturdy structure. Death of Faculty or Student : Upon learning of the death of a faculty member or student, the Crisis Management Team will be formed and all necessary steps and communications will be made. Suicide or death of an adolescent can result in a "contagion effect". This contagion effect, if intervention is not provided, can then result in the additional loss of other adolescents. Student Threats : Student threats need to be placed into context, yet always taken seriously. Therefore, the Crisis Management Team will deal with threats, gestures, and attempts. Faculty members can be proactive when they hear threats made by reporting the incident to the Administration. If needed the faculty member who observed the threat may need to fill out a Student Threat Assessment Form so additional measures can be taken. Illness and Injury : When you place approximately 800 people in a building and have activities such as PE, field trips, and Science experiments there is always an element of risk for injury. Taking this and the fact we have some students and staff who have diagnosed medical conditions, you need to be aware of the responses to each injury or illness. The main objective when dealing with illness or injury is that you think of the health of the individual first and then make appropriate contacts (e.g. 911, Health Center, and Administration,).
