Board Report August 2025

Victim’s Assistance Center If necessary, a Victim’s Assistance Center will be established in coordination with the Institute for Human Resources (IHR) and the Livingston County Special Services Unit (LCSSU). Operation of Crisis Management Team Philosophy and Rationale As educators and supervisors of young people, we believe it is critical to prepare ourselves for any tragedy or crisis impacting our students and staff; of primary importance is helping students and staff members cope with any and all types of tragic events. We also believe that effective management of students will prevent a chaotic atmosphere during the school day. A crisis is defined as any situation that adversely affects a sizable number of employees, students, or parents in our community. The superintendent will have the authority to determine what constitutes a crisis. In the event of a crisis in District No. 90, the following steps will be taken contingent on the type of crisis faced: 1. The first priority of our school district is the safety and well-being of all students and employees. 2. A Crisis Management Team (CMT) composed of administrators, staff members, and others will be convened by the superintendent or his/her designee as soon as possible to implement an appropriate plan of action. 3. Ongoing information, both factual and speculative, will be gathered by members of the crisis team. Verified information will be channeled to media officials by the district spokesperson. 4. All media inquiries will be channeled through the superintendent's office and the superintendent or his/her designee will serve as spokesperson for the school district. All parental inquiries will be directed to the main office. 7. A crisis communication system will be utilized for reporting to internal and external publics using: emergency informational meetings, p.a. announcements, written communications to parents, and press releases and news conferences. Follow-up communications with staff, students, and parents will occur within a reasonable time following the crisis. 8. Appropriate counseling and support services will be available to students, parents, and staff members during and after a crisis. 9. An evaluation of the crisis plan will be conducted by two district employees appointed by the superintendent with recommendations for improvements, and the report will be submitted to the board of education within thirty days following a crisis. The CMT will be called together upon the death of a District No. 90 student or staff member in order to evaluate the situation, assign duties, disseminate information, and provide for intervention efforts within the district. The CMT shall develop plans and intervention strategies necessary to contain the situation. 5. Media headquarters will be established in the superintendent’s office. 6. The CMT headquarters will be established in the high school boardroom.
