Elevator/Lift The District contracts with a qualified specialist recognized by the State of Illinois to annually certify the lift and related equipment are working properly. Boilers The District contracts with a qualified specialist recognized by the State of Illinois to annually certify all boilers and related equipment are working properly. Athletic Equipment The District inspects certain athletic equipment such as football helmets, wrestling mats, and other equipment on a regular basis to ensure it is in proper condition and sufficient to reduce the possibility of injury to student athletes. AEDs are located and maintained throughout the District as required by law. Asbestos, Chemicals and MSDS All maintenance and custodial staff receive training which meets the legal requirements for the proper handling of asbestos and MSDS from a professional environmental, safety-engineering firm. Some staff participate in safety programs at the local community college. All supplies and materials purchased must meet safety and other requirements and must be stored, used, and disposed of properly. Tort Liability Levy The District annually levies a property tax for Tort Liability pursuant to law and this Plan. There is no statutory maximum rate for a Tort Levy. Other Local Funds The District pays for portions of this Risk Management Plan from property taxes levied and deposited to funds other than the Tort Fund, including the Education, Operations and Maintenance, and Transportation Funds as well as from Health Life Safety and Construction Bond proceeds. Priority for Payment The Superintendent shall make recommendations to the Board in the annual budget process for the payment of risk management and loss control costs from the Tort Levy and other funds. The Board may pay for any cost under this Plan and the Act from the Tort Levy. Given limited Tort Levy funds, the priority for payment shall be: Bonds issued under the Act. Judgments and Settlements authorized by the Act. Insurance and related expenses. Legal, Police and Security expenses. All other costs, including personnel, facility, inspection, etc. FUNDING
