PTHS Senior Illustrates Book Cover Artowork By: Rebekah Hendershott

Lilly Logan, a senior at Pontiac Township High School, was nominated to have her artwork displayed on the cover of a book, Tracks across Europe. Holli Vuong, a junior, also received recognition. Mr. Vogt approached Lilly asking her if she wanted to participate in a competition to have her art on a book. After a little background on Tracks across Europe about a war hero’s family trying to honor their dad, Lilly gladly agreed. Lilly received a picture from the family that was to be on the cover and got creative freedom to do what she wanted. Lilly made the decision to add cool colors to represent the cold and dull times of the war. She wanted to emphasize the seriousness of a war and the losses accumulated in it. This war hero, Dal Estes, survived D-day and earned a Purple Heart. This book was written after Dal returned from service and was celebrated in a country foreign to him, so not in his homeland. He opened the war museum to honor all the men and women who have served their country. If you are ever in downtown Pontiac, take a stop in and view the amazing collection that has only grown.
