PHILOSOPHY OF DISCIPLINE Pontiac Township High School is committed to a proactive approach to student discipline that emphasizes teaching, growth, and accountability rather than punishment alone. When addressing misconduct, we use appropriate interventions and progressive consequences designed to reinforce positive behavior, address underlying causes, resolve conflicts, and support students in remaining engaged in school. Our goal is to foster a safe, supportive, and welcoming learning environment where every student can succeed. We view discipline as an opportunity to teach appropriate behaviors, repair relationships, and strengthen our school community. Disciplinary consequences are progressive and are determined based on the nature and severity of the behavior. We focus on students' choices and actions while encouraging personal responsibility and self-discipline. All disciplinary actions are intended to protect the well-being of the school community and promote positive behavioral growth. NOTICE : The PTHS Student Handbook addresses extensive information including expectations, rules, policies and procedures. However, not every detail or specific circumstance can be included thus unique circumstances and situations will be handled on a case by case basis. CODE OF ETHICS FOR STUDENTS Acceptance - I will accept people for their merits, regardless of race, sexual orientation, religion, and nationality. Integrity - I will be honest and fair in my dealings with other people. I will set high moral standards for myself and will not let the crowd control my actions. Respect - I will hold the advice and opinions of my elders, especially my parents, in high regard. I will be courteous, always respecting the rights of others. Responsibility - I will fulfill my responsibilities and obligations to my parents, school, and community. I will be responsible for my actions at all times. Friendliness - I will maintain a friendly attitude toward everyone and will discourage cliques. Sportsmanship - I will treat all players and fans of opposing teams as guests, show self-control at all times, and accept the decisions of the officials as final. I will be modest in victory and gracious in defeat. We value our partnership with parents and guardians and appreciate their continued support in helping students succeed.
