Board Report December 2025
Solar Farm Problem It is believed there are the potential for 5 in PTHS that are at least somewhat built – with only two new ones on this levy tax roll right now until occupancy permits are put in place from the county engineer per Shelly Renken. After talking to the Livingston County people: “I have 13 solar farms that are being built as of right now, some of them are almost ready for final occupancy but probably won't be received until early January. It looks like there are 3 that received occupancy permits. “ How it’s figured: Solar farms are only valued at 218,000 per MW per statute. Therefore a 5 MW (which most of them have been so far) would be valued at 1,090,000 x the trending factor for 2025 of 1.28, resulting in a market value of 1,395,200, or an assessed value of 465,020. That would be if it is assessed for a full year. “We put them on the tax rolls for the amount of months they are active.” And as you can guess that isn’t a full year! I have 2 so far that will be going on for a partial year that sit in Pontiac Township High School District. The new construction added for the two mentioned will only be $297,653 for 2025. The new construction added for the two mentioned will only be 297,653 for 2025 to the amount already disclosed in early October. So obviously not enough to make waves in our district finances. I think much of Livingston County was told this would help the schools more (maybe if the big one around Cayuga goes in someday), the money is just not in these solar farms. It is in the wind towers.
