Board Report August 2025

Fire Safety The fire alarm is a constant blast on the fire alarm horn and strobe lights. If the alarm fails, the regular class bells will ring constantly. The Fire Alarm should be sounded by anyone who has seen a fire in the building or has seen smoke coming out of a room or from under a door. If smoke is seen coming from under a door, do not open the door. To activate the alarm, pull the lever arm on the red fire alarms located on the walls. a. If smoke/fire are present, allow the students to evacuate the building immediately in the prescribed manner. Take the Crisis Management Plan with you as you leave the room. Close the door. b. If smoke/fire is not present, keep students in the classroom and wait for an announcement over the intercom. Chemistry, Shop, Biology, Physics, Adaptive Living, and FACS, 1. If experiments are in progress where gas is being used, turn off all gas. 2. Turn off all cooking equipment. 3. Turn off all machinery. 4. Adaptive Living - develop a plan to ensure that all wheelchair students have someone assigned to them to push them out of the building. A few suggestions that will make for a quicker evacuation of the building are as follows: 1. The first students into the hallways should be sure they are not progressing into the fire area. 2. Sometimes the closest exit may be in the fire area so you will have to use one of the other exits. 3. Do not try to help fight the fire; your safety means more to us than your assistance. 4. Students who exit on the south side of the building need to enter athletic fields through gates. 1. Take each fire alarm seriously! 2. Assign a responsible student to lead each group. Be sure he/she knows the exact route. 3. Be the last to leave the room. Close the door. 4. Move away from the building when you are outside. 5. The “all clear” will be given by school personnel at each entrance. 6. Teachers need to take charge. You are responsible for your students and other students in your area. 7. The first day of class each semester make sure you tell your students which route (and alternative route) to use when exiting the building. When the alarm is heard, the teacher should do the following: 1. Teacher should check the hallway and look for smoke/fire. General Suggestions
